The Crown Prince Couple's Prizes were established as a wedding present by Bikubenfonden in 2004.
The Prizes honour artistic, cultural and humanitarian achievements in Denmark. A jury choses a number of candidates, and the crown prince and crown princess select a winner. Each year the award ceremony is a live televised ceremony in which the crown prince couple plays an active part.
2005 saw the first award ceremony, but pregnant Mary was absent. She had to rest on doctor's orders.
In 2006 she took part for the first time, wearing a new dress by Heartmade.
The ceremony took place at the Opera in Copenhagen. The crown prince couple was accompanied by Caroline Heering, Mary's lady-in-waiting.
The social prize went to Mary's patronage Julemærkefonden. Chairwoman Joan Vestergaard received 250.000 Danish kroner.
